Though it is bread, this enjoyable treat is in many ways more like a cake. The leavening agent in banana bread is usually baking soda instead of yeast. What's more unlike regular bread, banana bread is baked from batter and not dough. And evidently, it includes bananas that's normally mashed and put into the batter.

A huge family favorite, this has been around for years! In fact it first came into popularity in the 1930's, and ever since then a number of varieties have appeared in cookbooks. Banana bread is relatively easy to make, and hence popular among home bakers. In addition it can often be found in the display cases of bakeries and coffee shops.

It is not only tasty but also versatile. Usually a great on-the-go breakfast item, either at home or grabbed at the coffee shop where the busy professional stops for his or her daily dose of java. Also it can be packed in a lunchbox that makes it a great ending to the afternoon meal, but is just as likely to be a warm after-school snack waiting when children hop off the bus. What's more it can also serve as a last-minute dessert option when guests turn up unexpectedly and you find yourself whipping up a quick meal. If whipped together before dinner and popped into the oven it makes a fantastic accompaniment to a relaxing cup of tea while watching evening television.

This homey treat is so versatile because it is sweet, but not overwhelmingly so. There is an adequate amount of a dessert-like texture and taste for it to serve as a sweet meal-ender. But its dessert like qualities are milder than overwhelming, and banana bread can be just as fulfilling accompanying a meal or as a standalone quick breakfast with a cup of coffee or a glass of milk.

It is generally baked in loaf-shaped pans and can be cut into thin slices or larger wedges for serving. There are plenty of variations on banana bread out there. Of which, some banana bread recipes are passed down by a number of families from generation to generation, and each will declare theirs the best. Perhaps the most common varieties are banana nut breads, which are made from standard banana bread recipes but also include walnuts or pecans.

In fact there are many other types of fruit or even vegetable-based breads. Such as cranberry bread, cranberry banana bread, and zucchini bread are among a few examples. While these are also often-enjoyed treats, banana bread still seems to take the front in terms of popularity.

Certain studies have indicated that if your vitamin B12 levels are too low your homocysteine levels will be elevated.  Homocysteine is an amino acid that is thought to be responsible for heart diseases, CFS and fibromyalgia.  Alzheimer's and depression have been linked to high levels of the amino acid also.  B12 is largely responsible for preventing these homocysteines from getting out of hand and causing problems.

Anywhere up to a quarter of the American population over eighty could possibly have this deficiency.  This is the belief of The Jack Miller Center for Peripheral Neuropathy at the University of Chicago, who also teaches their students that those who have strict vegetarian diets are commonly lacking in the vitamin also.  Although vegetables canbe a good source of B12 vitamins, their content is lower so the amount needing to be consumed is much higher than for those who eat meats and dairy.  Vegetarians should definitely take supplements every day.

Studies conducted in America indicate that any person who has a deficiency of B12 vitamin will be two times at least more likely to get depression.  Those who have sufficient levels were considerably less predisposed to it, and reported feeling overall more calm and capable.  This is due to the fact that B12 has many important roles in maintaining brain health and manufacturing brain chemicals. For more info see  that is rich in B12 should play a large role in your diet every day.  These are foods such as dairy, eggs, pork, organ meats, fish and beef, and if taken with a good B12 supplement, should resolve your problem or prevent you from developing one.  Another solution to a B12 deficiency is to have a B12 injection, which you can ask your doctor about.

Many people have a deficiency in vitamin B12 but think they are simply run down and overworked.  By taking a good B complex that covers all B vitamins and folic acid, you will feel less stressed, have more energy and avoid the many health issues that come with not getting enough through food.  By keeping the B12 levels up, the homocysteine levels will stay in check and you will lead a healthy, happy life free from the high risk of depression and ill health.

If you must have a hamburger or french fries do not cook them in oil, try steaming them or baking them in the toaster oven.  Avoid refined sugar because sugar is the number one cause of troubled skin, try your best to avoid eating chocolates, drinking sodas or alcoholic beverages.

Although your body does need a bit of fat, you should avoid eating too much red meat, instead you might want to substitute red meat with say chicken or fish which will give you the required protein that your body needs.  Milk is one of the products you must definitely avoid especially if you suffer from acne. Another kind of food to avoid is processed foods as these contain chemicals that can be harmful to the body, and also the skin. Margarine, shortening or other hydrogenated vegetable oils, and commercial dairy products and meats containing hormones should also be avoided.

Protein is essential to good health, but foods that contain high levels of saturated fat and omega-6 fatty acids can do more harm than good. You should avoid foods such as ground beef, sausages, bacon, and ham, as these foods are high in fat to protein ratio, and are not the types of protein you should eat. Also because these foods are cooked at high temperatures they can cause harmful byproducts for you skin. Saturated fats which are known to be harmful to the cardiovascular system, can increase wrinkles and accelerate skin aging, the trans-fatty acids have been proven to have very harmful effects to the skins health and appearance.

Some foods that contain carbohydrates such as pasta, or baked beans have been known to cause conditions which can initiate inflammatory and damaging effects on the skin. Most legumes have beneficial effects on the skin, but canned baked beans which are prepared in brown sugar or molasses, can have a negative effect on glucose levels.  When these  baked beans are cooked at high temperatures for long periods, it cause break down in their cell wall, causing them to release normal sugars which are easier to digest and cause the blood glucose levels to rise. Less refined foods such as whole grains are digested slower and, as such, are slowly absorbed into the blood steam, resulting in lower blood sugar levels and less insulin discharge, which results in lower glycemic load.

Unless you are a heartburn sufferer, you probably have no idea about the pain and discomfort that can be caused by coffee. Coffee lovers who experience this problem can face a real dilemma, do they enjoy the odd cup a risk hours of agony, or give it up altogether.

In world where coffee has become part of our culture, and everybody seems to be constantly drinking the brew, it can be hard to remove it completely from your diet. The tempting aroma from the office coffee machine can be enough to convince us that one cup won't do any harm.

Heartburn itself is caused largely by stomach acid finding its way back up into the esophagus.  This causes irritation of the esophagus lining causing the well known burning sensation, often accompanied by an acidic taste in the mouth.

Caffeine is a major cause of heartburn because it causes the stomach to produce large amounts of stomach acid, much more than the body requires to aid digestion.  This excess acid leaks into the lower esophageal sphincter causing that irritation and burning sensation.

So do you need to switch to inferior tasting decaf to avoid that painful heartburn?  Well there is a new technique to remove the caffeine from regular coffee without losing the flavor.  This is called the Hevla technique and can make coffee drinking much more pleasant for those that need to reduce their caffeine intake.

During the Helva process, beans are steamed under exceptionally strong pressure.  Molecules in the steam bond with the caffeine to remove it from the coffee bean without affecting the taste of the coffee that can be brewed from it. Without caffeine, the coffee will not provoke production of excess stomach acid and will not cause heartburn, but will retain its delicious taste and aroma.

The Helva process is not yet widely used, but it presents a great commercial benefit for coffee suppliers who will be able to regain some of those customers that gave up regular coffee for health reasons, but who could not stand the chemical taste of traditional decaf.

When it is widely available in supermarkets, Helva coffee will be obtainable in all the various forms you can now buy coffee.  In whole beans, ready ground roasts, instant granules and coffee pods for your one cup coffee makers, so heartburn sufferers never need to miss out on a great cup of coffee again.

Are You Sick of Bars? Move the Tavern to Your House!

Are you fed up with the hassle and cost of going out to have some drinks? Get rid of the hassle and have your own draft beer at the house whenever you want it.

Article Body:
Are you tired of always having to go out to a bar for a couple of cold beers when you really just want to take it easy and relax a bit? Have you ever thought about how much money you spend when drinking out in public? For anyone who's had to put off their car payment for another week just because of last Saturday night, the solution is simple; beer taps right in your own home!

Buying draft beer by the keg not only costs much less but the quality and experience goes up as well. A draft beer system is a fairly simple way to enjoy great beer without going anywhere. A draft system uses gas (usually CO2 or a blend of nitrogen and CO2) to push beer from the keg right out of the beer tap handles and into your glass. Beer must remain in between 38-40 degrees Fahrenheit for two reasons: for proper pouring and to maintain the freshness of the beer, as it is not pasteurized. It can be a bit more complicated with multiple beer taps, but the basics remain; consistent temperature and a proper pressure level of gas.

At home beer taps are fairly simple in design. A small tank of CO2 attaches to a regulator, which reduces the pressure down to 10-12 psi. A hose goes from the beer tap handles to the keg. There are a variety of beer tap handles that go along with certain kinds of beers. All beer tap handles have a screwing or keyed fitting that hooks up to the keg and another hose that runs to the faucet where the beer is poured out. Tap handles usually run anywhere from $15-$150, depending on what style and brand you choose.

Most of the domestic keg coolers are designed to hold a pony keg, or about ¼ of a regular sized keg. Some larger coolers are made for restaurants that hold ½ of a keg. There are also conversion kits where you can actually turn your old refrigerator into a keg cooler. It is a good idea to test out the size of the keg you'll be using with the fridge before building it to completion. Local beer distributors will more than likely loan you one for a small deposit down. After that, it's as simple as measuring a frame around the keg to make sure your cooler is big enough to hold the size keg you want.

A five-pound tank of gas is usually enough for about 5-7 half kegs and is relatively inexpensive (between  $7-$12) to refill. Regular cleaning should be done to maintain proper flow through the system and to keep the taste of the beer great. This can be done by regularly running clean and hot water through the lines every couple of weeks or so. Whatever system you go with, there's a lot to be said about being able to stay in your own home and still being able to enjoy your favorite draft beer just like at the bar.

Buffalo was once the chief source of meat for many Native Americans before the animal nearly became instinct over two centuries ago. However, because of its many health benefits and other factors, buffalo meat is rapidly making a comeback to plates and palates today.

Private ranches are now raising buffalos in a bid to fill the growing demand for buffalo meat but the supply remains miniscule compared to the supply of beef, making it presently relatively expensive. Despite the costs however, buffalo meat has many advantages over beef which makes it an ideal meat alternative for the health conscious.

For one, buffalo meat has 70% to 90% less fat than beef and half the cholesterol. Further, because they are stronger than domestic animals, they don't require growth hormones and artificial substances to get them to size. In appearance, buffalo meat is similar to beef except that it has a darker reddish color. Connoisseurs however say that buffalo meat has more flavor than beef and is just as tender.

Buffalo is also as versatile as beef and has similar cuts. It can be used in any beef recipe but has to be prepared and cooked differently because it cooks faster than beef due to the absence of fat within the muscle. Fat acts as an insulator which tends to slow down cooking time so with less fat content, the meat will cook faster.

To prepare a buffalo steak, experts advise putting olive oil on each side before cooking in order to keep the meat moist. The key is to go "low and slow". One should turn the buffalo steak over often and cook at a lower heat than steak. Also use slower cooking times but avoid overcooking the buffalo as this could dry the meat out. If you are using a gas grill, experts also advise keeping the lid closed to keep the moisture in. If you are cooking buffalo meat in the broiler meantime, it is advised to move the oven rack a notch lower than what you would use to broil beef. Chefs however advise against using a broiler to cook buffalo meat. If you are using the stove, the stove should be turned to medium. Ground buffalo meat can also be used as a substitute for ground beef but it is well to remember that buffalo does not shrink in size when cooked.

In general, an 8 ounce buffalo steak will take about 10 minutes to prepare medium. Studies show that buffalo cooked at a medium temperature produces the tastiest results but if you want your buffalo steak well done, you may want to consider cooking at a very low temperature (180 – 200F) and for at least 10 hours. When cooking buffalo steak, the basic guidelines to remember are to use lower heat and to retain the moisture. One way of sealing in buffalo's natural juices is to sear the meat on both sides. Because, buffalo cooks faster, you should expect that compared to beef cooked to the same degree of doneness, buffalo steaks or burgers will be ready faster.

Paired with onions, mushrooms or your favorite seasoning; buffalo is offering meat lovers a variety of natural and healthy ways to enjoy their meals.

The differentiation may seem miniscule, but the gourmet coffee or tea you beverage will Taste completely divers. More importantly, all the variances affect the flavor and aroma. Many coffee drinkers are not aware of how gourmet coffee should taste since their senses have been desensitized with below-par coffees.

Beans

The gourmet coffee bean is considered to be among the finest coffee beans in the world. Out of these varieties, fine gourmet coffee beans are obtained mainly from the species Coffee Arabica. The gourmet coffee beans are offered in a variety of dissimilar serving sizes.

When brewing your own gourmet coffee blend in your kitchen, you have a choice of fresh ground coffee beans from fine Italian Espressos to the rare and exotic Indonesian Kopi Luwak. You want the best cup of coffee you can get, right? If so it pays to do some research and ask questions about what you're buying.

When doing your legwork for the perfect gourmet coffee, there are a number of things to be cautious about. One thing you should know is whether the beans are fresh Arabian beans blended with stale French Roast. Are the coffee beans roasted in house or locally, or are they shipped from across the country to sit on a shelf waiting for orders. If possible, get coffee beans that have been roasted less than 1 week before.

Quality

The dictionary defines gourmet nourishment like this, "Gourmet foodstuff is that which is of the highest quality, perfectly prepared and artfully presented". Commuters can consider making gourmet coffee beverages at home or the office before departing and enjoy it at home or work while spending quality time with the family and coworkers or take it along in a commuter coffee mug. Gourmet coffee beans go through a rigorous process of certification that is stricter to help keep the quality high.

Today you can buy quality wholesale gourmet coffee and the right coffee machine to get the coffee you deserve. In addition, only Arabic beans contain the high quality needed for gourmet coffee beans. The quality of a coffee bean depends vastly on where and how that particular coffee bean is grown.

Grind

By grinding your own coffee beans, you'll be able to only grind what you need, meaning that you will have complete freshness in your coffee. The best way to do this is to buy the whole bean in batches and grind them with yur own grinding machine as you need it. But be careful: The type of coffee grind that you use is critical in order to properly match the type of brewing method you will be using. Be sure to ask your coffee merchant which grind is best for you.

Do you love your coffee? Can you go a day without a cup of your favorite drink? Coffee as we know it today is much different than when it was first discovered. These days there are so many varieties of gourmet coffee that it is difficult to choose a favorite one.

What Exactly Is Gourmet Coffee?

A cup of gourmet coffee is a relatively new idea. Gourmet coffee is usually only made from Arabica beans, which are usually the coffee beans with the fullest flavors. The general average jar of coffee which you buy in supermarkets is made using a mixture of beans using low grade Brazilian coffee beans and Robusta beans. They also add a small amount of the Arabica coffee beans to ensure a nicer flavor than using just the low grade beans. Also the lower grade beans contain more caffeine than the others.

Usually, gourmet coffee is roasted at the plant and makes it into the consumer's hands within a week. You can buy pre-ground gourmet coffee, but the preferred way to buy it is while it is still in its bean form. The beans can usually be ground at the store you buy them from.

Commercial coffee is also usually not as fresh. Commercial coffee is pre-ground before it is packaged. After packaging it can take several weeks to actually make it to a grocery store. Usually, the longer pre-ground commercial coffee sits on a shelf waiting to be purchased, the staler and bitter it will become. Generally, the biggest advantage of commercial coffee is that it is cheap compared to some types of gourmet coffee.

The two most important things to remember when looking for gourmet coffee is that it is fresher and has more flavor than the commercial jars of coffee. Another important point to remember with gourmet coffee, is that you can choose where the coffee beans have come from and also know how it has been roasted. If you have yet to try a cup of gourmet coffee, you will not be disappointed. You will be spoilt for choice in the world of gourmet coffee, give it a try. You can find small bags so that if you decide you don't like that particular variety, you don't have a 10 pound can in your kitchen still full of coffee. So give gourmet coffee a try, and if you find it is not to your liking you can always revert back to your old ways!

If you are buying coffee beans for your business and not sure what you should be looking for, read on- this guide will help you to understand the differences between the basic types of coffee, and bust the coffee jargon, so you can decide which variety is right for you.

The two main varieties of coffee plant are arabica and robusta. Arabica originated from Ethiopia, whilst robusta came from Uganda. Both are now grown in several other regions throughout the world, and most coffee is labelled clearly to show which country and region it was grown in. Generally speaking, arabica is superior to robusta, with a much stronger and more distinct flavour- robusta can be bitter and weak-tasting- however the taste also varies depending on which region the coffee comes from, and the processes it is subjected to during growing, shipping, storing and brewing.

You will often find that coffee is described in terms similar to those you might find in wine tasting: the main three categories used are flavour (such as 'sweet' or 'spicy'), aroma (such as 'flowery' or 'chocolaty'), body (such as 'medium-bodied' or 'full-bodied') and acidity (which refers to how 'sharp' or 'clean' the coffee tastes, NOT to its pH).

When you buy coffee beans, you will probably buy them already roasted, however you can 'home-roast' them if you choose. Roasting unlocks the flavour from the bean, and the extent to which beans are roasted varies- for example, you can buy 'medium roast' beans, 'Italian roast' beans ('Italian' refers to the roast- it does not indicate that the beans came from Italy), and so on.

It is worth trying out different types of coffee, using the above points as a guide. You will be amazed at the range of flavours out there, and the more effort you make to try the different flavours, the more of an expert you will become.

Antioxidants are substances that help our bodies fight free radicals-natural but toxic chemical reactions that occur in our bodies and damage our cells. Different antioxidants combat different free radicals, so it's wise to know and use a wide range of antioxidant foods and vitamins that help preserve health and vitality.

Vitamin C is a well-known antioxidant vitamin. Foods that contain the antioxidant properties of Vitamin C include oranges, lemons, grapefruits, cantaloupe, many leafy greens, broccoli and peppers. Beta carotene, found in carrots, is another antioxidant nutrient.

Garlic is another food known for its antioxidant properties. Garlic actually has many healthy properties and can even be used as an antibacterial.

Berries of almost every type are excellent antioxidants. Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and blackberries all have antioxidant properties.

Although cooking can dilute the nutrients in food, most foods have more than enough to last. The antioxidant properties of red grapes are even found in wine, so it's not necessary to eat raw foods in order to get antioxidant benefits.

And speaking of antioxidants that you can drink, don't forget about tea. All different kinds of tea have these good-for-you properties, not just green tea, as was originally thought.

While nutritional supplements are available to help us get the nutrients we aren't getting from food, the recommended five servings of fruits and vegetables a day (especially if those vegetables are broccoli and spinach) should provide most of the antioxidants you need. Especially for children, it's wise not to get in the habit of relying on supplements when a naturally varied diet can provide for most nutritional needs. As we get older, however, it may become necessary to supplement certain vitamins and minerals; for example, some older people lose the ability to naturally synthesize enough Vitamin B12. Vitamin D is another vitamin that may need to be supplemented in older people. Your doctor can do blood tests to determine if you could benefit from vitamin supplementation.

Limited Number of Cell Divisions Theory

This theory is concerned with the number of cell divisions directly affected by the accumulations of the cell's waster products. As more wastes accumulate over time the cells quickly degenerate thus causing aging and ultimately death.

Hayflick Limit Theory

Dr. Hayflick theorized that the aging process was controlled by a biological clock contained within each living cell.  Studies done in 1961 concluded that human fibroblast cells (lung, skin, muscle, heart) have a limited life span. They divide approximately 50 times over a period of years and then suddenly stop. They also concluded nutrition seemed to have an effect on the rate of cell division. Final conclusion of this theory states that improper functioning of cells and loss of cells in organs and tissues may be responsible for the effects of aging.

Death Hormone Theory (DECO)

Brain cells or neurons are unlike other cells in that they do not replicate. At birth we have roughly 12 billion of them and over a life time about 10 percent die out. Dr. Donner Denckle speculated that as we age the pituitary begins to release DECO which inhibits the ability of cells to use thyroxine. Thyrozine is a hormone produced by the thyroid-governing basal metabolism, which is the rate at which cells convert food to energy. The metabolic rate brings on and accelerates the process of aging.

Thymic-Stimulating Theory

Dr. Alan Goldstein says "the thymus is the master gland of the immune systems." The size of the gland continues to reduce and shrink to round three grams by age 60. Scientists are investigating the possibility that the disappearance of the thymus contributes to the aging process by weakening the body's immune system.

Mitochondrial Theory

This is the free radical theory is supported by directed experimental observations of Mitochondrial aging. Our primary source of energy comes from ATP. Mitochondria are the energy-producing organelles in the cells that produce ATP.  They produce cell energy by a process that leads to forming potentially damaging free radicals. Evidence seems to tell us that various kinds of accumulated DNA damage over time contribute to disease. New research in mitochondrial repair could play an important role in the fight against aging.

Errors and Repairs Theory

Dr. Leslie Orgel suggested in 1963 that because the "machinery for making protein in cells is so essential, an error in that machinery could be catastrophic." Since the system is incapable of always making perfect repairs on these molecules, the accumulation of flawed molecules can cause disease and other age changes to occur.

Redundant DNA Theory

This theory is similar to the error-and-repairs theory in that it also blames errors accumulating in genes for age changes. A difference is that as these errors accumulate the reserve genetic sequences of identical DNA that take over until the system is work out.

Microbreweries, or microbrews for short, have been gaining a lot of attention in the past several years. Microbrews are best classified as breweries that produce less than 15,000 barrels in a given year.

The strength of microbrews is found in their philosophy that beer should be of the highest quality. Therefore, microbrews are only brewed with malted barley, hops, water, and yeast, which are the only four ingredients found in the purist German beers. Mass bottled beers normally add rice and corn to help lower costs.

The only drawback to microbrews is what they cost. The more expensive ingredients found in microbrews cost on average 60% higher than the mass bottled beers.

Beer isn't like wine, which tends to get better with age. Beer is instead a food that should be consumed as soon as possible after production. With this in mind, pubs or microbrews that produce beer on the premises are the hottest new trends, with four new pubs on average popping up each and every week.

Each year, sales of microbrews goes up an average of 40% each year. This figure is very impressive when you consider that the market is shrinking as a whole. Even with this amazing success, the microbrew sales represent around two percent of the entire beer market.

In their pursuit to continue dominating the entire beer market, Anheuser-Busch has tapped into the trend of microbrews. They recently purchased a stake in the Seattle based Red Hook Ale microbrewery. The new products they released into the beer market include Red Wolf, Elk Mountain Red, and Elk Mountain Amber Ale.

Microbrews are normally produced regionally, therefore Anheuser-Busch is developing regional manufacturers and distributors. By doing this, they must decide on the best possible way to handle their short term cash needs for purchasing inventory in these tiny plants.

With their recent transition into the world of microbrews, you can count on Anheuser-Busch to make quite the impact. They will be offering more microbrews in the future, which is great news for beer drinkers. If you like the wild taste of microbrews, Anheuser-Busch is more than worth your time and money.
